McLaren is returning to their roots in famous F1 road car models with this brand new iteration of their very successful super car lineup. Thanks in part to large demand as well as large sales volume for the 650S Coupe, 650S Spider, and the 675LT Coupe. McLaren has opted to move forward with a Spider version for customers who prefer ultimate speed, driving, and top-down excitement.
A step up in almost every way from the 650S, the 2016 McLaren 675LT Spider (or “Long Tail” for those not familiar with McLaren’s ultra rare F1 variants) has increased horse power, better handling, and a diet for weight savings. All of these improvements combined, McLaren believes they offer a superior driving experience. Further separating it from the rest of the plain, run-of-the-mill 650S series cars, the 2016 McLaren 675LT Spider also has larger carbon fiber front and rear splitters and larger side air intakes. Which lets this model use air more efficiently and provide more down-force for cornering. Light weight multi-spoke wheels further save weight on the car, for a total of 100 kg weight savings when compared to the standard Spider. All new carbon body work wasn’t the only part of this model getting a makeover–the engine also has exhaust manifolds, custom turbochargers, lightweight connecting rods and a new camshaft. All together, these designs and modifications provide the car with 666 Horse Power, and 516 Lb-ft of Torque, which propel this drop top beauty to over 60mph in just 2.9 seconds.
For those that want to truly stand out, McLaren is offering exclusive paint colors for this series only. The golden shade featured in the photograph above is named Solis. However, should you want more color or customization options, McLaren offers the “MSO Department” (McLaren Special Operations) for tailored designs. With enough money and patience, McLaren will transform their 2016 McLaren 675LT Spider into whatever your mind can dream up. Customization choices range from various carbon fiber colors, thousands of leather and stitching color combinations, and revised body work with custom panels. All to make your car truly one of a kind.
Don’t expect prices to be cheap, with the 675 Coupe prices starting at $276,900 MSRP, the 2016 McLaren 675LT Spider will set you back even more when pricing is announced.
