2011 Volkswagen Jetta SEL – Test Drive by Lauren Fix, The Car Coach®
Volkswagen has come on the scene really strong this year and there are more great vehicles coming to your local showroom soon. The all-new Jetta has sophisticated style, it’s almost 3 inches bigger than the previous model and yet it’s lighter weight and gets better fuel economy. The reflex silver metallic Jetta I drove had a nice stance, was very elegant and was a great improvement over the previous model. I was surprised at how much legroom and trunk space the new Jetta offered in addition to the 2.5 L 170 hp. five-cylinder engine.
This front wheel drive vehicle had the “go” as well as the looks. Four-wheel disc brakes, ABS, stability control and other safety features stop these 17-inch alloy wheels, available on the SEL, in a reasonably short distance.
When it comes to safety, Volkswagen always steps up their game, besides the standard six front and rear airbags, standard side air bag and curtain protection, height adjustable seat belts, and intelligent crash response system; the ability to feel in control of his vehicle gives the driver confidence.
The Jetta offers standard, power heated mirrors with available integrated turn signal indicators; standard one touch auto off and down on all four windows; a very easy to use touch screen navigation system; keyless push button start; iPod connectivity; Bluetooth; Sirius satellite radio multifunction trip computer; heated front seats with lumbar support leather wrapped multifunctional, height adjustable telescoping steering wheel and an antitheft device. There isn’t much more you could want in a car that is priced at $23,000.
Although I prefer the Jetta in a TDI, this car was a lot of fun to drive especially with all the extras that were standard on the SEL. If you’re considering a car in this category don’t drive by your local VW dealer, stop in and take one for a test drive. Volkswagen plans to be the world’s largest auto manufacturer, and they are well on their way to make that goal a reality. Visit www.vw.com.
