2014 BMW i3 Car Review by Lauren Fix

The future of sustainable mobility has arrived. In this edition of Car Coach, YNN’s Lauren Fix shows you a car that is changing the future of vehicle technology.

In response to recent global trends, electric cars are becoming popular. Now, larger urban cities have been adopting this technology too.

This BMW i3 is the result of an integrated development approach aimed at cutting fuel consumption and emissions in urban traffic. The substructure of the passenger compartment is made from carbon fiber and the chassis is aluminum.

BMW says it will offer fast charging capability as an option, allowing i3 owners to regain up to 80 percent of charge in as little as 20 minutes. It will deliver 80 to 100 miles of driving between charges.

The vehicle concept and drive system were developed entirely in-house by the BMW Group.

Carbon fiber is a material that is 50 percent lighter than steel, but has the same strength, making it safe and allows for unique innovative design. The super strong and light weight material makes the cars lighter and easier to propel. The U.S. is the leader in electric cars, and many auto manufacturers from around the world are building cars to meet future needs with lighter stronger, and greener materials.

These cars must include good driving dynamics and premium options in order to increase the sales of electric cars.

Vehicles such as the 2014 BMW i3, are producing cars world-wide, which are manufactured with aluminum and carbon fiber with premium design and details to be the leader in the electric car segment.

In order to reduce range anxiety, a rear-mounted 650cc, 34 hp, two-cylinder, gasoline-powered Range Extender generator is available, which roughly doubles the vehicle’s range. When the battery gets to a certain level, the Range Extender starts and maintains the battery’s current state of charge.

The interior is designed with recycled plastics, composites and aluminum to keep the surfaces soft, functional and good looking.

The black hood and other glass areas are designed this way for a distinctive look of this 4-seat vehicle. There are large glass areas for good city driving visibility. The inside has a flat floor, because the battery is across the under carriage. This modern, light premium vehicle offers modern display technologies.
