Classified as large, the 7-passenger crossover SUV, is offered in Sport, Touring and Grand Touring trims. Our test vehicle was a 2013 Mazda CX-9 Grand Touring with AWD. The range-topping Grand Touring model includes 20-inch wheels, bi-xenon headlights, LED running lights, fog lights, automatic wipers, a power liftgate, keyless ignition/entry, driver-seat memory functions, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, power lumbar support for the driver seat and upgraded interior trim.
Most options are bundled into packages. The Touring trim is eligible for the Touring Technology package including a navigation system, a premium 10-speaker Bose surround-sound system and satellite radio.
The redesigned 2013 CX-9 boasts an updated front fascia and sweeping aerodynamic lines, a short front and rear overhang, modest wheelbase and wide sculpted fenders create the illusion of a small crossover while maximizing stability and agile handling.
Our test drive presented a comfortable ride on the road. The seats were comfortable, however the passenger front seat didn’t offer lumbar support. The vehicle was easy to maneuver in to parking spots and tight spaces. All of the controls were easy to operate and were straight forward.
The Mazda CX-9 is a stylish alternative for those that need the versatility of a mini-van but desire the looks of a modern SUV without rugged off-road capabilities.
