The all-new 2013 Ford C-Max Hybrid and C-MAX Energi plug-in hybrid vehicles offer more passenger space, a commanding view of the road and great fuel economy, all in a compact SUV. Let’s take a closer look.

Model — 2013 Ford C-Max Hybrid
MPG — 47 city/ 47 hwy. mpg
Engine — 2.0L 4-cyl. gas and hybrid engine
Price — Starts at $25,272

The C-Max is an all-new model for 2013 and has a four-cylinder engine and an electric motor. I test drove both models and was surprised with how large the cabin area was for passengers. The five-seat C-Max has a nice interior, with more upscale materials and more passenger space than most cars in the category.

The optional automatic tailgate that can be operated by waving a foot under the bumper was a nice option when your arms are full of bags. The optional MyFord Touch and SYNC system are easy to use and allow you to access multiple controls like navigation, sound system, climate control and Bluetooth connection to your cell phone. The voice command works wonders with music selection and phone calls, while automatic parking is the worth the extra investment.

The instrument cluster is a combination of the MyFord and SmartGauge displays which offers plenty of information. The display to the left of the speedometer shows a variety of running data, which can be customized with the left steering-wheel controls. Along with trip data screens, Ford includes a set of screens that show the operation of the hybrid power train, including engine speed and when the car is operating under EV mode.

The 2013 Ford C-Max gets fuel economy and is more fun to drive than most hybrids, yet the ride is a bit harsher, and the C-Max has less cargo space than many other wagons.

Competes with:

• Toyota Prius V
• VW Jetta Sportwagen Diesel
• Hyundai Sonata Hybrid
• Toyota Camry Hybrid
• Chevrolet Volt
• Nissan Leaf

The 2013 Ford C-Max Hybrid is an interesting alternative to compact crossovers, wagons, minivans and hybrids. It offers great fuel economy and refined driving behaviors.

Remember, when shopping for a new car, test drive as many vehicles as you can in the class you are looking in to make sure you find the car that is best for you. For more information, visit www.ford.com.
