Ford Finds A Greener Way To Produce Power –
EcoBoost is the Answer.

The Ford Flex not only stands out in the crowd but now it has the power to pull away from it too.  Recently, I had the opportunity to drive the new engine and was quite impressed.

Ford’s lighter-weight, all-aluminum 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 engine delivers the performance of a V-8 engine with the fuel economy of a V-6.  The secret to the power is the twin turbochargers producing 355 horsepower and 350 ft.-lb. of torque.

This gives Ford an engine that can pull a trailer up to 4,500 pounds, get great fuel economy, have the power to drive up any mountain and still have power to pass when you want it.
The EcoBoost engine can be ordered in the Ford Flex, Taurus SHO, MKS luxury sedan and the MKT crossover.

How does EcoBoost work?

The “boost” part of EcoBoost comes from the twin turbochargers that recover energy from the exhaust that otherwise would be wasted and put it back in the engine to gain efficiency.  Simply put, the turbocharging system forces more air into the engine for more power.  A compressor increases or “boosts” the pressure of the air entering the engine.

This means that the Flex EcoBoost engine delivers 350 ft.-lb. of torque (which is more torque than a 5.3-liter Chevrolet Tahoe) and since the power is delivered at 1,500 rpm, it offers superior fuel economy as well.  Pretty cool.
